There doesn’t tend to be a huge variety of plants in the Japanese gardens. Mostly evergreen conifers, Cryptomeria japonica (Japanese Cedar) Pinus thunbergii (Japanese Black Pine) and Pinus densiflora (Japanese Red Pine). Also Osmanthus (Tea Olive) and Ilex crenata (Japanese Holly). Of course there are lots of species of Cherry trees (Prunus) and other flowering trees such as Apricots and Kousa Dogwood.

As previously mentioned, Wisteria is commonly found on purpose built trellises like this one that marks the start of the O-tsutai Bridge.

At Hama-rikyu I saw a very nice stand of Aspidistra.

In several places I saw this variegated ground cover which I think is Sasa vetchii.
