Cherry blossom season is apparently a huge deal in Japan. I would guess that we were a week past the prime season in Tokyo, and the rain didn’t help matters. The blossom was still on many of the trees but the leaves were starting to flush also, reducing the effect somewhat.

Nevertheless, in Hama-rikyu garden, I saw a lady standing by a tree for at least 5 minutes, not moving, staring at the blossom. No, she wasn’t on her phone - or at least if she was she didn’t say anything during the 5 minutes.

Then I noticed some signs below one of the trees and it turned out that these were the rules for viewing cherry blossoms.
