Rules
Miner House Rules prevail. The rules are posted on the pool room wall and below.
Based on World Standardized Rules for 8-Ball. www.bca-pool.com/play/tournaments/rules/rls_8bl.shtml.
- No called shots are required, except on the 8-ball.
- If any ball leaves the table, the shooter is disqualified and forfeits the game.
- Stripes or Solids are not assigned after the break shot. They are assigned only after the next shot when the ball is potted.
- On all shots (except on the break and when the table is open), the shooter must hit one of his group of balls first and either pot a ball or make any ball hit a rail. Otherwise, it's a foul.
- If the cue ball is potted (scratch), it is a foul.
- The penalty for a foul is cue ball in hand. The next shooter may place the cue ball anywhere on the table before taking his shot.
- When shooting the 8-ball, if it is potted and there is a foul, the shooter loses. If the 8-ball is not potted, play continues as with a regular foul.
- A player loses the game if he:
- Fouls when potting the 8-ball. (If the 8-ball is not potted, play continues as with a regular foul.)
- Pots the 8-ball on the same stroke as the last of his group of balls.
- Pots the 8-ball in a pot other than the one designated.
- Pots the 8-ball when it is not the legal object ball.
- If a player gets very lucky and pots the 8-ball on the break, he wins and buys drinks for the bar.
- If a player scratches on the break, the game continues with ball in hand for the opponent.
