The Dai-sensui Pond and bird visitors

The pond fills the center of the garden, with a path running all around it. There are 3 islets and an assembly house on the edge of the water. In the past the water was drawn from the Sumida River but the pond today must rely on rain water.

There are lots of wild birds year round at Kiyosumi including Dabchick, Doves, Bulbuls, Azure-winged Magpies, Starlings, Japanese Great Tits, Gray Heron, Night Heron, Japanese Cormorant and Black-headed Gulls. Swallows and Little Terns arrive in summer and Tufted Ducks (see photo above), Diving Ducks (Pochard), Northern Pintails and Eurasian Widgeon spend the winter.
